First-round schedule for OIA Red playoffs set


The O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red football tournament first round kicks off Friday with three games and one on Saturday, all at school sites.

On Friday, West sixth seed Waipahu travels to East third seed Moanalua in a 7 p.m. start. It will be preceded by a JV game between Aiea and Moanalua at 4:30 p.m.

Also on Friday, East sixth seed Castle will visit West third seed Kapolei and East fourth seed McKinley will play West fifth seed Campbell at Roosevelt. Both games are set for 6 p.m. Roosevelt is McKinley's "home" field.

Saturday's only opening round game will have East fifth seed Kailua taking on West fourth seed Waianae at Mililani's John Kauinana Stadium. As the higher seed, the Seariders were supposed to host the game, but they've played all their games away because their stadium's bleachers being repaired. A JV game between Mililani and Castle starts at 4 p.m. The varsity game will follow.

The division's top two seeds - Kahuku and Farrington in the East and Mililani and Leilehua in the West - draw first-round byes.

The top six teams from each division qualified for the tournament. The top three will qualify for the First Hawaiian Bank Division I state football tournament in November.
