Hawaii takes on San Diego St. in 3rd road game of season

The University of Hawai'i Warriors plays its third game on the road with a Mountain West contest against San Diego State, Saturday at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, Calif. Kick-off is set for 2:00 p.m. Hawaii time and the game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.

The Warriors (1-3, 0-1 Mountain West) suffered a 47-0 loss to Brigham Young last week in Provo, Utah. It marked the first time UH was kept off the scoreboard since 1998, a span of 182 games, and the 47-point shutout also represented the largest margin of defeat since 2004. In the game, Hawai'i produced just 149 yards of total offense, their fewest in 12 years, and surrendered 396 yards on the ground to the Cougars, the highest total by a UH opponent since 2004.

In their last contest, the Aztecs (2-3, 0-1) lost a shoot-out to Fresno State, 52-40. San Diego State held a 21-7 lead after the first quarter, allowed 27 straight points in the second quarter to let the Bulldogs take the lead, then regained the lead 40-36 in the third quarter before Fresno State scored the game’s final 17 points to win going away. Quarterback Ryan Katz passed for 160 yards and two touchdowns, with three interceptions, and rushed for a team-high 89 yards including a 67 yard scamper.

The teams were former Western Athletic Conference rivals before SDSU left for the Mountain West in 1999. The Aztecs lead the overall series 15-9-2 and have won the last five games played in San Diego.
