MILILANI- Dakota Turner accounts for three scores as the Trojans dominate the visiting Kapolei Hurricanes for a 45-0 win at John Kauinana Stadium Friday night. With the huge lopsided win for the Trojans (5-1 overall) and racking up 368 yards of total offense on their homecoming night, they move on to play Aiea next week.

"It was a great victory," said Turner. "Coach was preaching domination and execute and that’s exactly what we did."

The first score came at the 6:53 mark of the first quarter. Junior running back/linebacker Dayton Furuta powered his way for a two yard score. That touchdown came after senior quarterback Jarin Morikawa dismantled the Kapolei defense, marching down the field and going 6 of 8 for 67 yards before the run by Furuta.

"Real proud of the kids," said Trojans coach Rod York. "They deserve the win."

On the next kickoff following the Furuta touchdown, Kapolei would fumble during an attempted reverse between the two return men for the Hurricanes. Kapolei would recover, however that play would foreshadow another misfortune for the visiting team.

On the next drive, Kapolei would fumble again, this time recovered by the Trojans, setting Jarin Morikawa and his high powered offense on the Kapolei 11 yard line.

After finding no one open downfield, Morikawa would roll out, tuck it and run. He would scramble eleven yards for a rushing touchdown. That score would come at the 6:19 mark of the first period. Morikawa would finish the night 24 of 36 yards passing for 309 yards to go along with four touchdowns, not including his two rushing scores.

"Everyone contributed greatly," stated Turner. "O-Line did a heck of a job. So did all of the receivers, opening it up. Jarin did a great job reading. You couldn’t ask for anything better," he continued

Turner would score the next touchdown, coming at the 7:02 mark of the second quarter. Morikawa would connect with Turner for a 20 yard score, one that would be the first reception and first offensive touchdown for the senior do-it-all Trojan.

"Dakota got hands. He’s been practicing at slot for a while," said York. "It was the first time that we featured him and he came through."

Although three extra points and one two-point conversions failed for the Trojans, special teams played a key role in the victory against the ‘Canes. After the first score from Turner, Trojans kicker, senior Ryan Carlomany, would recover his own on-side kick to give Mililani good field position following the Turner score.

The Carlomany recovery would set up the next Trojan touchdown. At the 6:46 mark, Morikawa would find senior Ekolu Ramos for a 47 yard score. A perfect toss out, hitting Ramos in stride would put the Trojans up 26-0 in the second quarter of play. Morikawa would score again before the half, connecting with Turner again, this time for an 8 yard score.

The score going into the half was 33-0.

As for Kapolei, their woes continued throughout the game. Four bad snaps, three mishandled snaps, five sacks on their quarterback, one missed field goal, three missed sacks, one missed interception, 8 penalties, two fumbles as well as a first and goal at the Mililani two yard line, however coming away with nothing all in the first half alone.

The third touchdown for Turner would come at the 9:22 mark of the third quarter. That 14 yard score thrown by Morikawa would give the Trojans a 39-0 lead, forcing the running clock. Morikawa would run again for a score at the 3:35 mark, this time for 19 yards.

"(Mililani) looked awesome, they were firing on all cylinders," said Hernandez. "They came to play and played a hell of a game."

The Trojans, now first place in the Red West, moves to play Aiea. Kapolei on the other hand, moves to play a must-win game against Campbell. The Hurricanes must win one of its next two games in order to have any hope of making the OIA playoffs.

"We got two games to go and it’s a must win game for us with Campbell or Aiea. We obviously got to win one of the next two or we’re not going to make the playoffs," said Hernandez. "It’s the stark reality of where we are at."
