Warriors, Lamar square off for first time in home opener

Coming off of a bye week, the University of Hawai'i Warrior football team returns to the gridiron for a home opener against Lamar, a member of the Football Championship Subdivision's Southland Conference, Saturday.

Kick-off is set for 6:05 p.m. at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium.

The Warriors (0-1) opened the season two weeks ago in Los Angeles against then-No. 1 USC and got off to a rough start, falling behind 35-0 at the half in a 49-10 rout. In the loss, Hawai'i deployed seven first-time starters, including quarterback Sean Schroeder, who finished the game passing for 208 yards and a touchdown.

The Cardinals (1-1) started off their 2012 campaign with a 40-0 loss to Louisiana-Lafayette two weeks ago, but rebounded with a 31-0 shutout of Prairie View A&M at home last Saturday. In the win, quarterback Ryan Mossakowski passed for 224 yards and two touchdowns, both to wide receiver Kevin Johnson, who also rushed for a score.

Saturday’s game is the first meeting between the schools.
