Kamehameha coasts to 42-7 victory over Pac-Five

HALAWA - While it wasn't a do-or-die victory for Kamehameha, for Warriors head coach David Stant it was pretty close to it.

"It was a big win. We needed this," said Warriors coach David Stant. "I think we still made a lot of mistakes so we're not where we want to be but we're going in the right direction."

Rebounding after a 34-14 loss last week to Punahou, Kamehameha churned out 440 yards of total offense against Pac-Five en route to a 42-7 victory.

"Coming off of a loss to Punahou last week, we used it as motivation," said Camanse-Stevens. "We can't afford any more losses if we want to win the ILH or the state title."

The first score of the night was a four yard connection from quarterback Cid Camanse-Stevens to junior Nicholas Young. Young was able to haul the ball in with a defender all over him. The four yard touchdown gave the Warriors a 6-0 lead at the 8:36 mark of the first quarter.

Camanse-Stevens would call his own number about two minutes after the first score. A quarterback keeper would allow the Warriors quarterback to cut through the Wolf Pack defense for a 13 yard rushing score. Camanse-Stevens would finish the night 10 of 15 for 191 yards and four touchdowns.

"He was in the zone," said Stant. "After coming off a loss like that, I think he took the team under his wings tonight."

The Warriors made the two point conversion after the touchdown off a hand off up the middle to sophomore Kaulana Apelu.

Apelu would score again for the Warriors as he powered his way through the goal line stance for a one yard touchdown, His score would give KSK a 21-0 advantage going into the second quarter. Apelu would finish the night with seven carries for 72 yards and one touchdown.

"I just wanted to do the best I could do," said Apelu. "Just try to score every time."

Senior wide receiver Nephi Stevens would also get in on the scoring action for the Warriors. A direct snap for Stevens would give him a one yard rushing touchdown at the 4: 21 mark of the second quarter. Steven would also be on the receiving end of a Camanse-Stevens touchdown for 38 yards with about two minutes left to go in the half. Pac-5 would go into a running clock at the start of the third quarter.

Stevens would score his final touchdown with a four yard rush that sliced through the Wolf Pack front line. His touchdown would deliver the final blow to Pac-5, with the Warriors putting 42 points on the board.

"I think our team did very well," said Camanse-Stevens. "We were just clicking on offense and working out the kinks."

Pac-5 would catch a break with 8:00 to go in the fourth. Cody Kim would find running back Keoni Tom-Millare for 13 yard touchdown and their only score of the night.

"We played well on defense. Players made a lot of plays tonight," said Stant. "I think our defensive coordinator did a good job on scheming them and game planning them."
