OIA Red, White boys' tournaments start Tuesday


Two-time defending champion Moanalua is among four teams drawing a first-round bye in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Red boys' basketball tournament.

The modified double-elimination tournament gets underway Tuesday with four first-round games, as East champion Kahuku and runner-up Moanalua, as well as West champion Kapolei and runner-up Leilehua, draw byes.

Tuesday's openers have Castle at Pearl City, Waianae at Kalani, Roosevelt at Mililani and Campbell at Kaimuki. All games are 6 p.m. The losers are eliminated from the tournament.

In Wednesday's round, Kahuku will host the winner of Pearl City-Castle; Leilehua will host the winner of Kalani-Waianae; Moanalua will be home against the winner of Mililani-Roosevelt; and Kapolei will host the winner of Kaimuki-Campbell. All games are 6 p.m. The losers fall into the elimination bracket.

The White tournament also opens Tuesday with Farrington traveling to Waipahu and Nanakuli visiting McKinley. Both games are 6 p.m. The losers are done for the season.

On Wednesday, the winner of Waipahu-Farrington plays at Kalaheo at 6 p.m. and the winner of McKinley-Nanakuli travels to Aiea for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
