Kahuku, Roosevelt advance to OIA D1 quarterfinals

Kahuku and Roosevelt are moving on in the OIA Division I girls volleyball playoffs.

The Red Raiders, the reigning champions, picked up a straight set sweep over Campbell in the first opening round match at Nanakuli's Hugh Taufaasau Gymnasium Wednesday night.

Set scores were 25-21, 25-21 and 25-19.

Naomi Toilolo led the way with 12 kills and 19 assists and Lamona Lauhingoa added 10 kills as Kahuku (8-3) tallied 10 total aces in the win.

Jamilyn Amina put down 11 kills to lead the Sabers (6-5) in their season-ending loss.

For the most part, the Rough Riders (6-5) were in control for the entirety of the match in their 25-27, 25-22, 25-16, 25-22 win over the host Golden Hawks in the second contest of the night.

Diamen Brown had 19 kills and Dylan Hall added 10 more to power Roosevelt in the win. Piilani Hirahara did a solid job running the offense with 41 assists as Israiah Sexton-Tua and Jordan Kekauoha-Viena also chipped in seven kills apiece.

Marley-Alzie Matautia had 12 kills with three blocks and four aces to lead Nanakuli (7-4) in its final contest of the year.

Roosevelt will take on Kalaheo in the first quarterfinal at Mililani on Thursday. First serve is slated for 5:30 p.m.

Kahuku will face the Trojans following the match in the second quarterfinal.
