Roosevelt clips Kalani to keep pace in OIA D2 standings

Ioane Kamanao tossed three touchdowns and Roosevelt scored in every quarter to drop Kalani, 28-7, on homecoming night at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium Friday.

The Rough Riders (4-3 overall, 3-2 league) win their second-consecutive game and moves into a three-way tie for second place with Kaimuki and Kaiser in the OIA Division II standings.

The Falcons (3-3 overall, 2-3 league) suffered their third-straight defeat.

Kamanao threw for 313 yards on 18-of-28 passing, no interceptions and connected with three different receivers for touchdowns.

Duke Corso tackled Kamanao, who doubled up as the punter to give the Falcons a short field. Kalani's only points came off of Sonny Iaea's 1-yard touchdown in the first quarter and Aiea finished with a game-high 80 rushing yards on 24 carries.

It was Roosevelt the rest of the way.

Kamanao threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Keawe Davis and Journey DePeralta hit the PAT to tie the game at 7.

Davis had a team-high 82 yards on six catches and Jahsiah Souza-Armstead had six catches for 78 yards.

Roosevelt took a 14-7 lead on Dayten Tilton's 33-yard touchdown reception that held up until halftime.

In the third quarter, Kamanao threw his third and final touchdown of the night to Wiliama Aarona that covered 40 yards. He was injured at the 4:26 mark in the fourth quarter after a fumble and did not return.

Taimane Souza-Fautanu rushed for a 7-yard touchdown with 6:58 left in the fourth quarter for the final points of the night.

Souza-Fautanu registered three tackle for losses on defense and Leo Vicente had a pass break up and a fumble recovery for the Rough Riders' defense.

Koa Colburn, Aiden Trinidad, and Chainton Saldebar each had a sack for the Falcons.

Roosevelt closes out the regular season with two home games against McKinley (0-6 overall, 0-5 league) on Oct. 7 and Waialua (3-4 overall, 2-3 league) on Oct. 13.

Kalani faces Kalaheo (2-3 overall, 2-3 league) and first place Pearl City (6-0 overall, 5-0 league).
