No. 13 Waipahu rolls Radford for first win of season

WAIPAHU — No. 13 Waipahu picked up win No. 1 in emphatic fashion.

Elijah Mendoza passed for 197 yards and three touchdowns to lead Waipahu to a resounding 76-7 win over visiting Radford Friday night.

A crowd of about 600 fans at the Masa Yonamine Athletic Complex saw the Marauders improve to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in league play, while the Rams fell to 0-4 and 0-3.

Waipahu capped 10 of its 13 possessions with touchdowns, including seven trips to the end zone before halftime.

Mendoza threw touchdown passes of 27 and 18 yards to Jayden Chanel as part of a 27-point first quarter for the Marauders, whose first two scores came on touchdown runs of 16 and 33 yards by Jelaxtor Leota and Anieli Teleaai, respectively.

Eric Stephens pulled down a 55-yard touchdown pass from Mendoza early in the second quarter.

Mendoza completed 12 of his 18 pass attempts and was not intercepted. He gave way to JJ Manu in the second quarter. Manu's 25-yard scoring strike to Landon Flores finished off a 28-point second quarter for Waipahu.

Faafetai Failauga, Zaeden Reyes, Cheyne Felipe and Mark Carino each ran in a touchdown in the win.

Waipahu led at halftime, 55-0.

The Marauders finished with 214 rushing yards and 530 yards of total offense.

Isaiah Iosefa scored a defensive touchdown for Waipahu with his 12-yard interception return for score early in the fourth quarter.

Radford's lone points came on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Barner to Jacob Sullivan with 3:02 left in the third quarter.

The Rams were held to nine total first downs and 160 total yards. They were just 1 of 12 on third downs.

Sullivan recorded game-highs of seven receptions for 90 yards in the loss.

Radford will have a bye next week before it hosts Waianae on Sept. 22.

Waipahu will visit the Seariders Friday, then have a bye the following week.
