In an afternoon affair at Alex Kane Stadium, Kailua made the most of its only game this year at its home stadium, taking down Kaimuki 38-12 to improve to 2-2 overall.

Romeo Ortiz factored into three scores, passing for 187 yards and two touchdowns and added an eight yard keeper for another, part of a balanced 359 yards of total offense (187 passing, 172 rushing) in the win over the Bulldogs.

The Surfers got on the board first, with a Caysen Samson five yard plunge spotting the home team a 7-0 lead.

That cushion extended to 17-0 in the second quarter on a five yard pass from Ortiz to Colin Friel and a 50 yard field goal from Matthew Mashiba, the longest one made in the state this season.

Kaimuki scored all 12 of its points after halftime, the first score a 27 yard pass from Iosefa Letuli to Jeremiah White and the other a one yard keeper by Letuli. The two touchdowns by the Bulldogs bookended a 49 yard connection from Ortiz to Stoney Pocock, which helped keep the Surfers lead at double digits heading into the fourth.

Rushing scores by Kristian Yamamoto and Ortiz's TD keeper capped the scoring in the game in the final quarter.
