No. 2 Mililani hammers Kalani to open state tourney

MANOA—No. 2 Mililani scored early and often to run-rule Kalani, 13-3 in five innings to open the Data House/HHSAA Division I Softball Championships at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium at the University of Hawaii at Manoa Monday.

The Trojans advance to the quarterfinal round to face fourth seed and Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Kealakehe tomorrow at 12 noon.

The Falcons dropped to the consolation bracket and will take on Maui at McKinley at 4 pm.

Mililani piled on 15 hits and Jackie Kirkpatrick went 3 for 3 to lead the way and five different Trojans each had two hits.

The Trojans sent 13 batters to the plate and came away with eight runs on seven hits for a commanding 8-0 lead after the first inning.

Christen Horita was tagged with the loss after pitching one inning. She scattered seven hits, of the eight runs, five were earned.

Dani Monroe picked up the win in five innings of work to strike out five and walked one.

Makayla Pagampao and Taryn Hirano drove in a pair of runs in the second inning to put Mililani up by 10.

Madixx Muramoto drove in all of the Falcons' with a home run shot to the left field fence.

Pinch runner Rayna White had three runs for the game and scored in the third inning and Kolbi Kochi plated her second run off Dani Monroe's single to left field.

The Falcons committed four errors and one led to Amber Aniya's run that put the Trojans back up by 10.
