Moanalua takes care of McKinley in straight sets

Moanalua rolled to another OIA East win over visiting McKinley 25-13, 25-13.

Na Menehune are now 6-0 in conference while the Tigers fell to 3-2. Coach Alan Cabanting on his teamʻs play: "Today was good as far as execution in the first set while in the second set we got to the service line and got 5-6 points from a couple of role players which gave us an advantage." He added, " With our youth,weʻll play really well in one set and then in the next set weʻll have some mental things."
 
Both teams are getting ready for the annual ʻIolani Boys Volleyball tourney with pool play beginning tomorrow. Sixteen teams are in the field with three from the mainland and one from Canada. Top seeded teams include Punahou, ʻIolani, Maryknoll and HBA. Gold bracket championship play will be on Saturday.
 
Coach Cabanting talked about the upcoming tourney and the possibility of going against defending State champion Punahou: "We will definitely have to be at our very best if we face them. We still have a lot of work to do!." Na Menehune started off today with a three set scrimmage against Redondo Union, one of the tourney teams. "They are young like we are and pretty much at the same level," he said. Moanalua will take on Maryknoll and Prince Charles (Canada) in tomorrowʻs pool play while McKinley draws Punahou and Redondo Union.
