NUUANU — This one turned into a landslide very quickly.

The Hawaii Baptist girls basketball team used a 31-0 run that span the first and second quarters to ignite a 57-18 win over University Lab before a homecoming-filled Dan Liu Gymnasium Friday night.

With the win the Eagles, the defending Division II state champions, improved to 7-2 in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II standings with two games left in the regular season.

University Lab dropped to 6-3.

Hawaii Baptist trailed 7-3 to start the opening period, but closed out frame with a 10-0 run to take a 13-7 lead after the first eight minutes. The Eagles then combined a strong press and solid half court defense to score 21 straight points in the second quarter.

"I think we just started to play our game," said Ally Wada, the reigning ScoringLive All-Hawaii Division II Player of the Year. "After we settled down from all of the energy and the hype, we started to play our game and just relax."

The home team's string of consecutive straight points would end on a triple by University Lab's Tyra Goo Sun at the second quarter buzzer, but Hawaii Baptist was able to score 12 straight points to begin the second half to effectively put the game out of reach.

The Eagles got everyone involved in the victory with 16 players entering the game, 11 of which registered a bucket. Wada scored 11 points and Katelyn and Kyley Nakagawa each added nine more to lead Hawaii Baptist in the blowout win.

"I think it's good that everyone got involved," said Wada, who added three assists. "I think all of our players can play and it's definitely good that all of our seniors got to play just because it was their senior night."

Goo Sun and Cassidy Gelacio each had six points to lead the Jr. Bows in the loss.
