Castle has announced the hiring of John Hao as its varsity football coach, school athletic director Laynie Sueyasu announced in an email Wednesday morning.

Hao replaces longtime coach Nelson Maeda, who was not retained following the conclusion of the 2016 season.

Hao quarterbacked the Crusaders to the 1989 Prep Bowl title, passing for 330 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-18 win over Kahuku. He went on to play at the University of Hawaii from 1992-95.

It is Hao's second stint as a head coach. He went 15-6 in two seasons at Saint Louis in 2008-09. Most recently, Hao was offensive coordinator for Kahuku the past two seasons.
