Not bad for a first game.
Freshmen Haley Seleni and Sakari Bell each scored a goal to help Moanalua top host Kailua, 2-0, in both teams' Oahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division season opener on a windy Wednesday night at Alex Kane Stadium.
Seleni and Bell are two of 10 freshmen on Na Menehune's 22-man roster this season.
"For our first game of the season, I think we played well," said Moanalua coach Nikki Dela Pena. "We have a very young team, led by a lot of young people, so that's very good that the maturity is coming on strong early in the season."
Seleni, a 5-foot-6 midfielder/forward, scored on a 50-yard free kick in the 14th minute to give Moanalua an early 1-0 lead.
"I was kind of shocked that I made it in," she said. "It was good for me since I'm only a freshman and this is my first win in high school."
Bell tacked on an insurance goal in the 62nd minute on a 6-yard tap-in.
Na Menehune travels to Kalaheo on Saturday afternoon while the Surfriders will have a week off before hosting Kalani.
