Waialua soars through Kalaheo, 49-15

Waialua scored early and often to rumble past visiting Kalaheo, 49-15 in an Oahu Interscholastic Association Division II contest at Toshiyuki Nakasone Field Saturday afternoon.

Quarterback Tevesi Toia had his best game of his season to help the Bulldogs win their second straight game to improve to 2-1. The junior signal-caller finished with 207 yards passing and two touchdowns on 10 of 17 passing. He also added 66 yards on the ground and ran for a 1-yard score for the first points of the game.

Toia's most dangerous target was Caleb Apau, who caught five passes for a season-high 122 yards and a 27-yard score in the third quarter.

Risein Campbell rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown in the win while sophomore running back Howard Nahooikaika added 45 yards rushing and two scores.

Lancen Kuni, who recorded an interception while playing free safety, also caught a touchdown pass from Toia.

Kalaheo quarterback Mark Lehrner passed for 89 yards and two touchdowns to lead Kalaheo (1-4) in the loss.

Tristan Thulin-Marsh and Noah Bertelman, who each had an interception, led the Mustangs' defensive effort.
