One play after the ensuing kickoff, Leland Gomez made an interception near midfield and two plays later, Mariota connected with Duke Bukoski on a 37-yard touchdown strike and Jesse Correa's extra point made it 14-0.

After Damien went three-and-out on its next series, Derek Nakasato raced 41 yards for a touchdown and Correa's PAT put the Saints ahead, 21-0. The Monarchs again failed to gain a first down and the Crusaders went up, 28-0, after Mariota's 23-yard TD pass to Kaeo Aliviado on fourth-and-8.

Correa then made a 31-yard field goal with 26 seconds still remaining in the first quarter to give Saint Louis a 31-0 lead.
