Defending state champion Punahou completed the first round of the regular season with a straight set win over Kamehameha at Kekuhaupio Gymnasium Thursday night.

The visiting Buffanblu won by scores of 25-16 and 25-20 to improve to 10-0 atop the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I standings.

Wil Stanley led the Buffanblu offense with seven kills and the match-clinching point. Ethan Siegfried, Kanai Akana and Ryan Wilcox added five kills each.

"It's extremely difficult to run the table in the ILH," said Punahou coach Rick Tune. "It's always a challenge, but it's a good thing. We like the competition, we like the battle and we're fortunate to be where we are."

Naone Cannon had a match-high eight kills to lead the Warriors, who dropped to 7-3.

Even though his team has not dropped a set in league play, Tune said that his team still has more room for improvement.

The Buffanblu will return home to host two California teams, Corona Del Mar and Mira Costa, on Friday and Saturday in their annual Clash of the Titans tournament.

"We have another gear for sure, maybe another two gears," said Tune. "We need to show that tomorrow night and on Saturday night if we want to be competitive. Tonight's effort is good, but it won't be enough to get it done."
