Punahou sweeps state swimming championships

Punahou won both the boys and girls team titles at the OC16/HHSAA Swimming and Diving State Championships, which concluded today at the Naeole Aquatic Complex on the campus of Kamehameha-Hawaii.

The Buffanblu boys team total of 68 paced second place Maryknoll by a 29.5 point margin. Iolani finished third 34.

It was much of the same for the girls, as the Buffanblu posted an 86 point total, a full 55 points better than second-place Hawaii Preparatory Academy. Kamehameha and Kaiser tied for third with 16 points each.

State marks were set by Punahou's Aukai Lileikis in the 200 free (1:34.82) and 100 free (43.92), and Maryknoll's MJ Mao in the 100 fly (47.13) and 100 breast (54.40).

Lileikis also swam on Punahou's 200 relay team (1:25.62) to claim three golds at the meet. Punahou's Maddie Balish also won triple gold, taking home the 100 fly (56.89), 100 breast (1:03.45) and also swam on the Buffanblu's 200 free relay (1:37.97).

Mao was a double-medalist, as was Iolani's Sung Je Lee, who won both the 100 back (52.17) and 200 individual medley (1:54.23).
