SALT LAKE— Top-seeded Konawaena hammered Kaiser, 63-25 in the semifinals of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association/OC16 Girls Division I Basketball Championships at Moanalua on Thursday evening.

The Wildcats make back-to-back title appearances—their tenth overall and will have an opportunity to defend their crown night at the Stan Sheriff Center against third-seeded Maryknoll.

Kaiser will play Lahainaluna at 5 p.m. for third place.

Konawaena went on a 18-0 run to jumped out to a 20-3 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.

The Wildcats led, 36-9 at halftime.

Cherilyn Molina led the team with 14 points, Mikayla Tablit added 13 and Ihi Victor with 12.

Konawaena shot 26 of 57 (45.6 percent) from the field and forced 25 Kaiser turnovers.

Rose Shimaoka led the Cougars with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-18 shooting.
