Scrimmage notes from Farrington-Punahou

Farrington visited Alexander Field for its annual scrimmage against Punahou Saturday morning and both team's final tune-up before opening the 2015 season next weekend.

Here's a few of the notes I managed to jot down before having to take off for another scrimmage:

-Farrington:
• Bishop Rapozo, a transfer from Moanalua, was the lone quarterback to see action in the first half and fared well. He threw a 70-yard touchdown pass to WR Kingston Moses-Sanchez on a quick slant that went the distance to cap the Govs' first drive.
• As if often the case with Farrington, the large size of the offensive line should be noted.
• The offense utilized the shotgun formation a lot with three, and sometimes four receivers.
• FB Freedom Alualu is a load at 5-10, 250 and plowed his way in for a short TD run in the second half.
• Moses-Sanchez looks like he is emerging as the go-to receiver. He also caught a TD pass from Joziah Anakalea in the second half.
• The defense, which is replacing eight starters, continues to be a work in progress and especially struggled defending the deep ball to the outsides.
• QB Justin Uahinui, who transferred in from Farrington earlier this week, was not suited up.

-Punahou:
• With last year's four starting receivers all having graduated, Ethan Takeyama appears to be the top receiving threat this year. He caught TD passes of 10 and 35 yards from QB Ephraim Tuliloa, both in the first half.
• Tuliloa seems comfortable in the pocket, but struggles with his progressions when his first option is covered. He overthrew a few open receivers over the middle of the field.
• The Buffanblu are once again utilizing an uptempo, no huddle offense.
• Patamo Soa, one of just three returning defensive starters, was very stout against the run and did a nice job pressuring the quarterback at times.
• The defense struggled with tackling and taking proper angles on the opening drive, but steadily showed improvement over the course of the scrimmage.
• Running back Wayne Taulapapa saw limited playing time, but did rip off a couple of nice runs up the middle.
