Farrington's Ilagan, Kaiser's Owen claim OIA tennis titles

The Oahu Interscholastic Association individual tennis championships wrapped up Saturday afternoon after two days of competition at Patsy T. Mink/Central Oahu Regional Park.

Farrington's Andre Ilagan, the top seed out of the Eastern Division, defeated fellow-freshman Zion Heaven of Campbell, 6-4 and 6-3, to win the boys' singles title. Ilagan did not drop a set in any of his four matches in the tournament.

Kaiser's Lisa Owen, the East top seed, beat West fifth-seeded Chantelle Lopez of Kapolei, 6-1 and 6-1, to claim the girls' singles crown. Owen also did not drop a set in the tournament.

Mililani swept the doubles titles with the duo of Jace Akagi-Okuma and Davin Lee topping Kalani's Rayden and Koby Murata by a score of 6-1, 6-3 in the boys' final, while Haley Fujimori and Alysse Nakasato beat Pearl City's Elyssa Shirai and Leina Mizusawa, 6-3, 6-0, in the girls' final.

The Carlsmith Ball/Hawaii High School Athletic Association State Championships will be held May 7 to 9 at CORP.
