Moanalua, Kaiser claim OIA golf titles


The Moanalua boys and Kaiser girls won the team titles at the Oahu Interscholastic Association golf championships earlier this week at Turtle Bay Resort.

Kyosuke Hara won medalist honors by shooting five-under par 139 to lead Na Menehune, who also got top-five finishes by Shawn Lu (148), Desmond Mello (150) and Nickolas Nelson (151). Kailua's Caleb Keohokapu finished second at 141, two strokes behind Hara.

Malia Nam took top honors on the girls' side with a one-over par 145 to lead the Cougars, who also got a fourth-place finish by Keila Baladad (159) and an eighth-place finish by Mika Walker (170). Mililani's Mari Nishiura was second at 154 and Kalani's Miki Manta third at 156.

Golfers played 36 holes over two days at the par-72 George Fazio course on Monday and Tueday.

The top 35 boys and 23 girls qualified for the David Ishii Foundation/Hawaii High School Athletic Association State Championships next month at the Waikoloa Resort, Kings' course on the Big Island.
