WAIPIO — Campbell handed Mililani its first loss of the year, 10-4, to move into first place atop the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I West standings Saturday night.

The Sabers batted around the lineup and scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally from a 4-1 deficit at Patsy T. Mink/Central Oahu Regional Park. Campbell, ranked No. 4 in the ScoringLive/OC16 Softball Power Rankings, avenged an early regular season loss to the Trojans and improved to 10-1 in league play.

"I think our motivation to winning this game was different from the last time," said Campbell pitcher Elisa Favela. "We really wanted to win because this game was more important. We executed our hits when we needed to and we clutched up."

Mililani gave up 10 runs on 10 hits, both season-highs, in the contest and dropped to 9-1-1.

"Campbell was just the better team tonight," said Mililani coach Rose Antonio. "They hit the ball, they put the ball in play. We actually hit the ball well today, we just didn't take care of the ball."

Favela (6-1) fanned five, walked one and scattered six hits in a complete game effort to pick up the win.

"She worked hard," Campbell coach Michael Hermosura said on Favela. "She really wanted this game. She put a lot of hard work on the track, in the weight room and in the pen."

Junior second baseman Cydney Curran led the Sabers' offensive charge with two hits, two RBIs and three runs scored. Favela and center fielder Nashlyn Anguay each went 2 for 4 at the plate to round out the Sabers with multiple hits. 

Mililani ace Aubree Kim struck out eight, walked three and took the loss.

Favela had an RBI double in the bottom of the opening inning to plate Curran for the first score of the game.

The Trojans pulled even in the third inning when Kylie Ann-Bello, who was 3 for 4 on the night, drove in courtesy runner Maya Saneishi.

Mililani took the lead, 4-1 on Kristen Ishii's 3-run homer to left in the top of the fifth. Campbell responded with a 7-run outing in the bottom of the frame to regain the lead for good.

"All we ask for them was to play with heart," Hermosura said on his team's big fifth inning. "We did our yelling and we did our hard running in practice, now is the time to have fun. Just do the execution the way it's suppose to be done, whether it's offense or defense, and they did that."

Designated hitter Sierra Mariano had a double in the sixth inning to score the final two runs of the night.

Campbell wraps up the regular season with a road game against Kapolei while Mililani travels to face Leilehua. Both games are slated for next Thursday.
