Mililani smothers Kahuku, 4-2, to advance to semis


KAPOLEI— Four different players scored goals for the Trojans as second-seeded Mililani ousted Kahuku, 4-2 in the quarterfinals of the 2015 Outrigger Resorts/Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division I Boys Soccer State Championships at Kapolei High School on Saturday afternoon.

Mililani improves to 13-1 overall and advances to the semifinals to face Punahou in the semifinals on Friday, Feb. 27 at Waipio Soccer Pennisula. Kahuku ends the season at 11-5 overall.

Jeron Cunningham got the Trojans on the scoreboard first after he headed a corner kick from Jarad Choquette with less than a minute into the game.

Tony Silva added another goal at the 19th minute to make it a 2-0 lead in the first half. Anthony Menor and Graham Pangilinan had opportunities to add goals for Mililani.

Kahuku's Mikel Sodini had a chance to score late before halftime, but his shot went over the post.

The Trojans took a 2-0 lead at halftime.

MJ Matas scored a quick goal to start the second half off a cross from Trent Kamiya and Choquette scored another goal at the 46th minute to make it 4-0.

In the 75th minute, Nathen Fuluvaka scored a deep goal, about 75 yards out off a free kick to give the Red Raiders their first goal of the game and in the 79th minute, Gabriel Pinheiro-Alves added another goal.
