Suzuki, HBA girls lead after day one of state bowling


Hawaii Baptist leads the girls' team competition after the first day of the 41st Annual Billy Tees/Hawaii High School Athletic Association Bowling State Championships at the KBXtreme Lanes in Kailua-Kona Thursday.

The Golden Eagles lead defending champion Pearl City, 4807 pins to 4717, after six of nine games have been completed. Sacred Hearts (4419), Moanalua (4312) and Kauai (3801) are third through fifth.

HBA junior Shelby Suzuki leads the girls' individual competition with a six-game total of 1126 pins. Pearl City junior Chelsi Morishige, who won the state title last year, is second with 1059 pins and Punahou junior Anastasia Saili is third with 1048 pins.

The tournament resumes with boys' competition at 7:30 a.m. Friday and concludes Saturday.
