HALAWA — Division II No. 7 Damien (3-4 ILH, 4-4 overall) scored 28 points in the second quarter to rally past Pac-Five (1-6 ILH, 2-6 overall), 42-28 in the first game of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu postseason tournament double header at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium on Friday night.

Both teams met last week as the Monarchs prevailed, 26-21 and Damien advances to play the D2 top-seed, Iolani for the title next week, while the season ends for Pac-Five. The Raiders beat the Monarchs earlier in the ILH opener, 37-14 back on Aug. 29. 

Damien's Samson Low rushed for 158 yards on 21 carries and three touchdowns and Dallas Labanon threw two touchdowns and rushed for another to lead the way for the Monarchs. 

The Monarchs managed to overcome a slow start and 12 penalties for 135 yards. 

The Wolfpack made the game very interesting early on as they jumped out to a 14-0 lead. Tyler Matsukawa intercepted Dallas Labanon's pass intended for Kapiina King and the Wolfpack marched 30 yards on five plays as Kainoa Ferreira threw a 17-yard pass to Grey Ihu. Michael Lacsina recovered the ensuing onsides kick and seven seconds later Ferreira threw a 39-yard touchdown to Tsubasa Brennan. 

The Monarchs found some life and scored 28 unanswered points in the second quarter. Samson Low rushed for two touchdowns from 2-yards and 37-yards to tie the game at 14. 

Trevor Yee added a 10-yard run to put the Wolfpack back up, but the Monarchs added two touchdowns before the half. Dallas Labanon threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Kaeo Arakaki and after Chase Lundberg recovered the onsides kick, in four plays, Labanon threw a 19-yard touchdown to King and his run gave the Monarchs a 28-21 lead at halftime. 

In the second half, Arakaki recovered a muffed punt and four plays later, Labanon snuck it up the middle for a 1-yard touchdown. 

Brennan took the direct snap and ran it for a 1-yard touchdown. He finished with 12 catches for 210 yards and had a rushing touchdown to lead the Wolfpack. 

Low rushed for his third touchdown to put Damien up by double digits for the final score of the game late in the fourth.
