HALAWA — Despite a career-high three rushing touchdowns from Joey Iosefa, the Hawaii football team came up short once again in a 38-30 loss to Oregon State Saturday night.

A crowd of 26,700 fans at Aloha Stadium witnessed the Rainbow Warriors fall behind big in the first half before coming up with 23 consecutive points to close out the game. They fell to 0-2 on the year, while the Beavers improved to 2-0.

"It seems like it's just a broken record," Hawaii coach Norm Chow said. "We played really hard and I'm really proud of our effort, but we just can't make the mistakes that we do. We just have to keep fighting."

Iosefa, a senior running back, scored on runs of 2, 1 and 5 yards, but left the game in the fourth quarter with an apparent ankle injury. He carried 19 times for 54 yards for the game.

"He's obviously what we need to have to run the football, but we also need to be able to pass it, too," Chow said of Iosefa. "We all know he's a good player."

The Rainbow Warriors managed 236 passing yards, but much of it came in the second half, when they were playing from behind. Quarterback Ikaika Woolsey completed 20 of his 50 pass attempts with one interception. Marcus Kemp caught five passes for a team-high 102 yards. Defensive back Trayvon Henderson made a game-high 11 tackles in the loss.

"We always get great effort from our players and I love them for that," Chow said. "They just need to play smarter, but that comes with maturity. When you play a good team like Oregon State you just can't make mistakes, but I don't think we ever quit believing."

Beavers' quarterback Sean Mannion threw for 300 yards and three touchdowns on 26-of-37 passing. He completed passes to eight different receivers, including 11 to Victor Bolden, who finished with 119 yards and a touchdown. Connor Hamlett and Richard Mullaney also caught scoring strikes from Mannion.

"We'll take it," Oregon State coach Mikey Riley said. "We know we got to get better in some aspects. We knew that last weekend and we got to get better in some of those things from last week. We just got to keep improving."

Terron Ward led the Beavers' rushing attack with 15 carries for 124 yards. He also scored on a pair of first-half touchdowns runs.

Oregon State, which now leads the all-time series against Hawaii 7-3, held a 31-7 halftime lead.
