No. 8 Saint Louis throttles Pac-Five, 60-13

HALAWA – For the first time this season, Saint Louis was on the opposite side of a lopsided score.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa accounted for five total touchdowns to lead the eight-ranked Crusaders (1-3, 1-1 league) over Pac-Five (2-1, 1-1), 60-13, in a Interscholastic League of Honolulu game at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium Friday Night.

In one half of work Tagovailoa completed 20 of his 25 pass attempts for 430 yards and four touchdowns. The sophomore quarterback also scored on a 55-yard read-option play on the Crusaders’ second play form scrimmage.

“It’s been a great opportunity with these guys. We worked so hard,” said Tagovailoa. “Going 0-3, it’s been rough but eventually we’ll be picking things up. It’s not an easy offense and defense to pickup, but I think we’ll be good from here on out.”

After the Wolfpack went three-and-out on the ensuing drive, Tagovailoa quickly found slotback Keanu Souza for a 46-yard touchdown catch and run. Noah Alejado’s PAT gave Saint Louis a 13-0 lead with 10:26 to go in the first quarter.

Saint Louis’ third scoring drive of the night went 69 yards in four plays and 56 seconds. The drive was capped with a four-yard touchdown run by Jahred Silofau.

The Crusaders’ last touchdown of the opening quarter was on a 10-yard hookup between Tagovailoa and slotback Allan Cui.

Wideout Drew Kobayashi caught the third touchdown pass from Tagovailoa. It was a breakout game for the junior receiver as he finished with three catches for 133 yards and two touchdowns, the second score coming from a 20-yard pass from Ryder Kuhns. Kobayashi had six receptions for 79 yards prior to the contest.

Saint Louis defensive back Jedadiah Lulu capped the first half scoring with his 67-yard interception return for six as time expired in the second quarter.

A bright spot for Pac-Five was the play of Tsubasa Brennan. The senior wide receiver finished with 137 yards and a touchdown on 15 receptions.

The Wolfpack will have a week off while Saint Louis travels to take on Iolani next Saturday at Kozuki Stadium.

“We can enjoy the win right now, but we just got to keep moving forward, keep progressing and keep working,” said Tagovailoa.
