Saint Louis School announced the hiring of former head football coach Cal Lee to the same position Monday afternoon.

Athletic Director Ed Paola made Lee's return — which had been widely rumored in the previous weeks — official in an e-mailed press released.

Lee returns to Saint Louis after two seasons as defensive coordinator at Kalani. He led the Crusaders to 14 consecutive Prep Bowl titles and State Championships in his 21 seasons there and is the winningest coach in state history with a record of 239-32-5. Lee's first stint at Saint Louis was in 1972, when he went 2-7-1. He returned in 1982 and posted a 2-8-1 record, but led the Crusaders to a perfect 14-0 mark the following year and the first of 18 Interscholastic League of Honolulu titles during his tenure. His final season there was 2001, when Saint Louis went 10-1, but lost to Kahuku in the state championship game, 21-14.

Upon leaving Saint Louis, Lee was the head coach of the now-defunct Hawaiian Islanders arena football team in and went on to become an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at the University of Hawaii.

Lee replaces Matt Wright, who was not retained after two seasons as head coach. Saint Louis went 11-8 under Wright and finished third in the ILH Division I standings both years.
