Saints' turnovers no issue in 38-7 win over Pac-Five

Despite turning the ball over five times, including on its first play from scrimmage, No. 5 Saint Louis cashed in on two early turnovers of its own to knock off No. 9 Pac-Five, 38-7, in Interscholastic League of Honolulu action Friday night at Aloha Stadium.

Quarterback Kawai Mook-Garcia passed for 228 yards and two TDs and rushed for one as the Crusaders (4-1 overall, 1-1 ILH) bounced back from last week's loss to Kamehameha. The Wolfpack (3-1, 1-1) suffered their first setback after beating all their non-league opponents.

Defensive lineman Bret Kanoa intercepted Mook-Garcia's first pass of the game, returning it 22 yards to the Saint Louis 8. But sacks by Kaena Paikai and Kamalei Correa pushed the Pack back to the 28, where they lost the ball on downs after a fourth-down incomplete pass.

The Saints rolled down field with ease, ending with a 44-yard TD run by sophomore RB Adam Noga. Kouri Nago's PAT gave Saint Louis a 7-0 lead at 7:53 in the first quarter.

Pac-Five fumbled the ensuing kickoff at its 25, where the Saints needed just two plays to score, the latter on a 12-yard run by Mook-Garcia to make it 14-0 just 19 seconds after their first TD.

An interception by Colton Goeas on Pac-Five's next series set up Noga's four-yard TD run to make it 21-0 with 4:27 in the first quarter.

The Saints kept the pressure on in the second quarter when Mook-Garcia threw TD passes of 24 yards to Kainoa Abreu and 46 yards to Joseph Kea to make it 35-0 with 8:18 left in the half.

Nago hit a 33-yard field goal with no time left on the clock to make it 38-0 at the half.

Drew Viena got Pac-Five's only score with a 49-yard interception return off Saints' backup Zeke Wallace. Viena had two interceptions for the game.

The Crusaders had eight sacks in the game.
