Kaahanui, Grossman win medalist honors at Iolani Invitational


Kamehameha's Davis Kaahanui and Seabury Hall's Dakota Grossman won the boys and girls varsity races at the Iolani Invitational Cross Country Meet Saturday at Kualoa Ranch. 

Kaahanaui, the reigning individual boys state champion, completed the three-mile course in a time of 15 minutes and 15.11 seconds, more than 10 seconds better than second-place Makai Clemons of Kalaheo. Kaahanui's teammate, Kaeo Kruse, was third, Kalaheo's Toshiro Kosins fourth and Luis Figueroa, of Riverbank (Calif.), rounded out the top five.

Glacier Peak won the boys team title with 63 points, Laguna Beach (Calif). was second with 99, Kamehameha third with 103, Riverbank fourth with 106 and Punahou fifth with 117.

Grossman, who has won the individual girls state championship each of the last three years, finished the three-mile course in a time of 17 minutes and 42.58 seconds. Riverbank's Mikayla Florez was second, Heidi Smith of Glacier Peak (Wash.) was third while Hawaii Prep's Kristiana Van Pern finished fourth and Katherine Dittmann (Glacier Peak) fifth.

Glacier Peak also won the girls team title with 38 points, easily beating second-place Punahou, which finished with 87 points. Laguna Beach was third with 128 points, Hawaii Prep fourth with 142 and Riverbank fifth with 152.
