Roloos steps down as Baldwin head football coach

The Baldwin football team already had to overcome the loss of its star quarterback to graduation, now the Bears will have to do it without their head coach.

A.J. Roloos, who guided Baldwin to six Maui Interscholastic League Division I championships in six seasons, resigned in late June. The surprising departure was first reported by The Maui News Tuesday, who quoted school principal Catherine Kilborn.

"Yes he has," Kilborn told The Maui News when asked if Roloos has resigned. She said "It was (Roloos') personal decision" to step down.

Baldwin qualified for the state tournament every year under Roloos and reached the semifinals in 2007 and 2011. The Bears were already going to be without standout quarterback Keelan Ewaliko, a three-year starter who will play at the University of Hawaii this season.

Keneke Pacheco, who served as an assistant coach under Roloos, will take over as head coach for the upcoming season.
