Sugar Mill Classic makes return to Hans L'Orange Park


The return of the Sugar Mill Classic All-Star baseball game is set for 1 p.m. Monday at Hans L'Orange Park.

Batting practice starts at 10 a.m.

The teams, comprised of graduating seniors, are split into the Aloha Stars and Ohana Stars.

Some of the players participating for the Aloha Stars are: Mid-Pacific Institute shortstop Isaiah Kiner-Falefa and pitcher Trey Saito; outfielder Tanner Nishioka of 'Iolani; infielders Hoku Botelho and Tyler Meditz of Kamehameha.

Among the Ohana Stars are: Kailua pitcher Bryce Ah Sam; Pearl City pitcher/catcher Kamalu Neal; Castle pitcher Christian Kapeliela; and Kaiser pitcher Makana Lyman.

In the "Futures Game," which featured underclassmen, Aloha beat Ohana, 11-2, on Sunday.

The Sugar Mill Classic ran from 1999 to 2011. The first classic featured future major leaguers Shane Victorino (St. Anthony/Red Sox), Jerome Williams (Waipahu/Angels) and Chad Santos (Saint Louis/Giants), who has since retired.
