Kalani soccer standout Klink's mother passes

According to a press release issued by Kalani High School Athletic Director Gregory Van Cantfort, Hiroyo Klink, mother of Kalani soccer standout Leo Klink, passed away at the age of 52 Tuesday at 12:35pm at Kaiser Hospital Moanalua with her loving family at her side. She is survived by husband Paul, son Leo, and 3 older sisters, Mizue Yoshimatsu, Mutsumi Hirayama and Satsuki Narita.

Hiroyo suffered a severe brain hemorrhage while watching her son play for Kalani in the HHSAA Division I Soccer State Championship game. After kicking the winning penalty kick in the overtime tiebreaker, Leo was quickly whisked off the field to be at his mother's side.

The family is comforted in knowing that in her final hours, she was able to do her most favorite thing in the world and that was to watch Leo score the first of his two goals in the championship game.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation, as they have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of love, support and prayers from the soccer community and the entire state.

A trust fund has been set up at the Bank of Hawaii and donations can be made at any Bank of Hawaii to the Leo Klink Fund.

Funeral services are pending.
