Defending Division I state champion Kamehameha-Kapalama swept past Leilehua, 25-13, 25-17, 25-16, in an opening round victory over Leilehua in the New City Nissan Boys Volleyball State Championships at Kitamura Gymnasium on the campus of Farrington High School.

Kamuela Grugier-Hill put down 12 kills, setter Keahu Kaaa had 32 assists, Max Castanera added 6 kills and 2 blocks, and Mike Horita 3 aces for the Warriors, who advanced to a quarterfinal matchup against third-seed Kamehameha-Hawaii tomorrow at 7:00 p.m.

In the first match of the day at Farrington, Baldwin dropped the first set to Pearl City, but came back to notch three straight set wins to take the match, 19-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-18.

Setter Justyn Kuhaulua-Feiteira had 43 assists and 6 aces, and three Bears' players hit double-digit in the kill department, led by Brad Bowlin's 15 kills and 3 blocks.

Gabe Ross added 13 and Isei Finau 11 more for Baldwin, who will take on second-seed Moanalua in a match set to start at 5:00 p.m.
