National Football Foundation honors Hawai'i players


The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame Scholarship Program's Hawai'i Chapter honored 12 local senior athletes today at a luncheon at the Kahala Hotel & Resort.

Each athlete was honored for his achievements on the field, in the classroom and in his community.

The 12 honorees are:

-- Duke Bukoski, Saint Louis

-- Keenan-Celtic Fa'atea, Punahou

-- Koa Ka'ai, Kamehameha

-- Jenzen Kaleopa'a, Anuenue

-- Marcus Mariota, Saint Louis

-- Keeyan Nakatsu, Kamehameha

-- Patrick O'Neill, Punahou

-- Micah Pescaia, Kamehameha

-- Chase Rogers, Lahainaluna

-- Austin Schmidt, Leilehua

-- Kawika Stant, Kamehameha

-- Joseph Waiwaiole, Anuenue

In addition, a Coaches Award was presented to former longtime Farrington coach Skippa Diaz and the Earl Galdeira Community Service Award and $1,000 scholarship was presented to 'Aiea senior Phillip Madriaga, who suffered a career-ending injury before last season but continued to show leadership throughout the year as team captain.
