The postgame trek up Houghtailing St. was a victorious one for the Damien football team Saturday night.
The Monarchs scored 21 points after halftime to pull away from PAC-5, 29-10, in an ILH matchup at Farrington's Skippa Diaz Stadium.
Sylas Alaimalo made a game-high eight tackles and rushed for 94 yards and a 35-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach and Ian Sera had a career day with three receptions for 135 yards and two third-quarter touchdowns to lead Damien (3-2 overall, 1-0 league) in the win.
Pono Sales held it down in the secondary with two interceptions, including one on the final play of regulation.
Seth Miller was a workhorse for the ball-control Wolfpack (0-2, 0-2) with 25 carries for 135 yards and a 2-yard TD in the third quarter, the first plunge into the end zone for PAC-5 this season.
Evan Derauf had the honors of scoring the first points for the Wolfpack this year on a 36-yard field goal to give PAC-5 a 3-0 lead with 3:04 remaining in the first quarter.
Damien took the lead for good in the second quarter when Dayton Savea hauled in the first of three TDs by Alani "AJ" Tuifua. A bad snap on the PAT forced Alaimalo to run around left end for a 2-point conversion that made the score 8-3 with 6:20 to play in the second stanza.
Jerome Lilio had two first-half interceptions while Ken Shiraishi had a fourth quarter pick to lead the Wolfpack defensively.
