No. 7 PEARL CITY 19, KEALAKEHE 4Pearl City cranked out 11 hits and capitalized on eight Kealakehe errors to win, 19-4, in five innings to open the DataHouse/HHSAA Division I Softball State Championships at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium on Tuesday.
The Chargers advance to the quarterfinals to face Oahu Interscholastic Association West division rival Campbell at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The Sabers won both regular season meetings, 5-4, on March 13 and 5-2 on April 7.
Noel Saunders and Braelynn Kaulu-Choy Foo each went 3 for 4 and drove in four RBI and Alexas Presto-Ahsing tossed four strikes and walked two, in a four-inning three hitter with to pick up the win.
Lisan Mudong went 1 for 2 with two RBI to lead Kealakehe.
The Waveriders fall to the consolation semifinals to play Kapolei at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium on Thursday.
No. 3 LEILEHUA 12, No. 10 BALDWIN 1The No. 3 Mules burst into the quarterfinals after trampling No. 10 Baldwin, 12-1, in five innings to face the Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion and second-seeded Maryknoll at 4:30 p.m.
Kaena Nistal and Alyssa Asuncion each drove in three runs after going 3 for 4 and 2 for 3 from the plate, respectively.
Kamryn Kamakaiwi allowed one run on four hits and struck out six and walked one for the win in five innings of work. She went 1 for 2 from the plate, scoring two runs and hitting a two-RBI home run to end the game in the fifth due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Jordyn Vierra was 1 for 2 and drove in Baldwin's only run of the game in the second inning. The Bears drop to the consolation bracket to take on Roosevelt at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m.
No. 9 MILILANI 6, No. 2 ROOSEVELT 1No. 9 Mililani pulled away in the final two innings to upend No. 2 Roosevelt, 6-1, to advance to face Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion and third-seeded Waiakea at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The Trojans scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning on five hits and two errors and added another score in the seventh.
Tracie Okumura went 3 for 4 from the plate with two doubles and drove in a pair of runs while Cheyenne Ardona threw seven strikeouts and allowed one run for the win.
Jaeda Cabunoc took the loss and of the six Mililani runs, three were earned as she scattered 12 hits.
Maya Nakamura was 2 for 4 with a double and Mika Emoto brought in the Rough Riders' only run in the third inning. The Rough Riders committed five fielding errors for the game.
The Rough Riders play Baldwin at 9:15 a.m.
