KAILUA — Frank Felix led a quartet of double-digit scorers with 19 points and Iolani bounced host Kailua, 66-56, in a semifinal of the Surfriders Holiday Classic preseason boys' basketball tournament Friday.
The Raiders (3-0) will play Kamehameha (2-0) for the tournament championship, 7:30 p.m. Saturday in an all-Interscholastic League of Honolulu affair. The Surfriders (3-1) will meet Saint Francis (4-1) for third place at 6 p.m.
Also producing double-figure scoring for the Raiders were Kawika Lee (14), Cole Hogland (11) and Ryan Van Canfort (10). Felix had five on the Raiders' nine 3-pointers.
Kailua's Everett Torres-Kahapea led all scorers with 21 points. He was followed by Nainoa Peters' 12 and Isaiah Hopson's 10.
Kailua used an 8-0 run en route to a 12-8 advantage at the end of the first period. The Surfriders scored the first six points of the second to take an 18-8 lead before Lee ignited the first of six 3-pointers by Raiders that propeled them to a 26-24 lead at the half. Felix had three of the treys, while Sam Wheeler and Van Canfort accounted for the other two.
The Raiders then slowly pulled away in the second half. The closest the Surfriders came to the Raiders was at 31-28. From there, the Raiders kept the Surfriders at bay, not letting Kailua come to within less than eight points the rest of the way.
