Twelve outstanding athletes selected for Hall of Honor


The Hawaii High School Athletic Association announced the selection of 12 members to the 2014 Enterprise Rent-A-Car Hawaii/HHSAA Hall of Honor.

The athletes will be inducted at a banquet 5:30 p.m. June 1 at the Ala Moana Hotel. Each inductee is eligible for a $2,000 scholarship provided by Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

The 16-member committee picked:

* Alyssa Bettendorf, Seabury Hall: 2014 state girls' track champion in the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter runs; 2013 and 2014 Maui Interscholastic League track champion in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter runs, and 4x400 relay; 2014 MIL long jump champion.

* Evan Enriques, Kamehameha-Hawaii: 2011 to 2013 All-State selection in boys' volleyball; 2011 to 2013 Big Island Interscholastic Federation first-team selection (2012 and 2013 BIIF Player of the Year).

* Dayton Furuta, Mililani: 2013 All-State linebacker in football; 2012 and 2013 OIA Red West football all-star; 2014 state champion in judo;  2012 and 2013 OIA champion in wrestling and judo.

* Dakota Grossman, Seabury Hall: 2011 to 2014 state cross country champion; 2011 to 2014 Maui Interscholastic League cross country champion; 2011 to 2014 state 3,000 meters state champion; 2012 and 2014 state 1,500 meters state champion. 2011 to 2014 3,000 meters MIL champion; 2011 and 2012 MIL 1,500 meters champion; 2011, 2013 and 2014 MIL 800 meters champion.

* Sarah Liva, Mililani: 2013 (at Hanalani) and 2014 All-State in girls' basketball; 2012 and 2013 ILH D2 Player of the Year; 2014 OIA Red West first-team selection; 2013 All-State in girls' volleyball.

* Jacob McEnroe, Farrington: 2013 All-Hawaii and All-State defensive back in football; 2014 All-Hawaii and All-State boys' basketball selection. 2013 OIA Red East all-star first-team basketball selection.

* Jasmine Mau, Punahou: 14 gold medals in various events in girls' swimming from 2011 to 2014; seven state meet records from 2013 to 2014. 2011 to 2014 ILH Swimmer of the Year and champion in 14 events; eight different ILH meet records.

* Taira Ke'alohilani Robins-Hardy, Kamehameha-Kapalama: 2010 to 2013 All-State selection in girls' volleyball, 2013 State Player of the Year; 2010 to 2013 ILH first-team selection (2013 ILH Player of the Year). 2013 and 2014 All-State selection in girls' basketball; 2013 and 2014 ILH first-team all-star.

* Ryan Stack, Kamehameha-Kapalama: Nine gold medals in various events in boys' swimming from 2012 to 2014; four state meet records from 2013 to 2014. 2011 to 2014 12 ILH titles; four ILH meet records; 2014 ILH boys' Swimmer of the Year.

* Josh Terao, Mid-Pacific Institute: 2011 to 2014 state boys' wrestling champion; 2011 to 2014 state boys' judo champion;  2011 to 2014 ILH individual champion in both wrestling and judo.

* Alyssa Tobita, Mililani: 2011 to 2013 state girls' tennis champion; 2011 to 2014 OIA individual champion.

* Larry "Tui" Tuileta, Punahou: 2013 All-Hawaii Offensive Player of the Year, 2013 All-State Offensive Player of the Year in football; 2011 to 2013 ILH first-team selection; 2013 ILH Offensive Player of the Year. 2011 to 2013 All-State selection in boys' volleyball; 2011 to 2014 ILH first-team selection.

Some spring sports honors were unavailable at the time of the announcement.

The selection committee members are made up of working and retired journalists, athletic directors and coaches from around the state. The athletes were selected primarily on athletic achievement with character, academics and community service taken into consideration.
