WAIPIO - It is still the regular season, yet Mililani's 2-1 softball win against Campbell Saturday night had the intensity of a postseason game.

The Trojans (4-0) remained undefeated in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red West by rallying for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after the Sabers (1-2) broke the scoreless tie with a run in the top of the frame before a statewide televised game on OC16 at the Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park..

"Early in the season, but it's awesome for us," Mililani coach Rose Antonio said. "It's just like a playoff game. Now they know they can battle. It's awesome for them to come back after being down a run."

"We know that's our competition over there and we want to win all the time," Trojans senior designated player Nicole Cox said of playing the rival Sabers.

Once again, Trojans' ace sophomore Aubree Kim delivered another pitching gem, allowing an unearned run, five hits and a walk. She struck out 10, her third double-digit strikeouts game this season.

"She hit her spots real well, especially the outside spot and we were fishing on that," Campbell coach Shag Hermosura said. "We were long on our swings with that. Some of us made adjustments and some of us didn't. If we could protect the inside and look for the outside pitch, maybe it would've been a different story."

Making adjustment is what the Trojans did.

"It was just figuring which pitches to go for and figure out how to get it going, what to look for, talking and communicating with each other," said Cox, who was 2 for 3 with a double.

Kim was challenged by Campbell sophomore pitcher Elisa Favela, who allowed two runs (one earned) and seven hits, while striking out three in six innings. A key for Favela to keep the game low-scoring was keeping leadoff hitter Jade Yadao-Valdez in check. The only time she reached safely was on a chop single over the mound and used her remarkable speed to move from first to third on a sacrifice by Maya Yoshiura in the first inning. But Favela stranded Yadao-Valdez by retiring the next two hitters.

The Sabers broke the scoreless deadlock in the top of the sixth. Caragh Morris led off with a line single to center to took second on a misplayed ball in center. Kim, though, got Favela to pop out to second and struck out Nashlynn Anguay. Morris scored on Kyra Hoohuli's booming double to right-center; but Hoohuli was gunned down trying to stretch her hit into a triple to end the inning.

The Trojans wasted little time getting back. Karly Macadangdang doubled to center and scored on Nicole Cox's double to left-center. Justine Fabella chopped the off Favela's glove for an apparent infield single. But the umpire called Fabella out for stepping on to the plate during her swing; the dead ball play forced Cox to return to second But she advanced to third when Tori-Anne Baysa flied out to deep right field. Markie Okamoto reached first on an error by the third baseman that allowed Cox to score the go-ahead run before Kylyn Sasaki grounded out to second.

"It came down to who was going to make the error," Hermosura said. "It's going to happen; wish it didn't, but it happened. But the girls fought hard today. We have a young crew, but I'm not going to make that an excuse. I know they will come back. They work hard on the field and good things will happen for these kids."

Kim retired the Sabers in order in the top of the seventh to end the game.
