Kamehameha awarded top seed for D1 softball tourney


Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion Kamehameha was awarded the top seed for this week's DataHouse Division I state softball tournament, the Hawaii High School Athletic Association announced..

O'ahu Interscholastic Association champion Campbell, last year's state runner-up second, Maui Interscholastic League champion Baldwin is third and Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Hilo is fourth. The seeded teams draw first-round byes.

The 12-team tournament runs Tuesday through Friday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa.

In Tuesday's first round, Lahainaluna takes on Leilehua at 1 p.m.; Kea'au plays Mililani at 3 p.m.; Kapolei meets Moanalua at 5 p.m.; and Punahou battles Waipahu at 7 p.m.

In Wednesday's quarterfinals, Hilo will play at 1 p.m. against the winner of Kapolei-Moanalua; Baldwin will play at 3 p.m. against the winner of Punahou-Waipahu; Kamehameha will play at 5 p.m. against the winner of Leilehua-Lahainaluna; and Campbell will play at 7 p.m. against the winner of Kea'au-Mililani.
