Coming back in full swing from a one-point deficit, Maryknoll rallied past Mid-Pacific with three runs in the sixth inning to earn a key 4-2 road victory at Frear Softball Field this afternoon.

"We were always a comeback team," said Maryknoll head coach John Uekawa. "Normally the bottom half of our batting order brings up our top half."

At the top of the sixth, Maryknoll's Kasey Magdadaro hits a single and then stole second. Magdadaro came home on a double by Tamia Hirano, and Carolann Toyama brought Hirano home with a double to increase the Spartans' lead to 3-2. An RBI single by Shayna Ige capped a big three run inning for the visiting team.

"Everyone hitting after each other... it just brought everyone to be able to see the ball better and hit the ball better, I think everyone just fed off each other's energy." said Maryknoll catcher Carolann Toyama.

The Spartans took the lead early at the top the first inning as Carolann Toyama's base hit brought home Shearyna Labasan. Toyama was tagged out at second base after attempting to run for third to end the inning.

"The key to the success behind this team is the catcher behind the plate. She (Toyama) is a four-year starter, and thats the only senior we got starting, so she has to lead the team," said Uekawa. "By having her behind there (the plate) it constitutes everything being really nice and quiet out there. She is the quiet way of leadership. She does that not only behind the plate but with her bat."

Mid-Pacific garnered four, one, and two hits in the first, second, and third innings respectively, but no runners were able to advance past second. It wasn't until the fourth inning where the Owls rallied to make a comeback.

The Owls threatened in the fourth, loading the bases with two outs, but Maryknoll's Tamia Hirano picked up a ground ball and tagged Hollinger to end the fourth inning and the Owl's rally.

Mid-Pacific's Kayla Au held down Maryknoll quickly during the top of the fifth which was followed by Nicole Lopez's home run to left field at the bottom of the fifth to vault the Owls into the lead, 2-1.

Maryknoll's Carolann Toyama was 3-for-3 at the plate with 2 runs, 2 RBIs and 2 doubles, and added a stolen base for good measure.

Mid-Pacific's Nicole Lopez was two-for-four at the plate with one RBI and a home run.
