On Saturday May 21, 2011, Momilani Elementary School's PTSO (Parent, Teacher, Student Organization) held its First Annual Hui O Momilani Basketball Clinic at Pearl City High School Gym.

Coach Dennis Agena of Kalakaua Basketball & Coach Mike Taylor of Punahou School led the event.  Other camp coaches on hand were Jeremiah Ostrowski (University of Hawaii), Shawna Kuehu (University of Hawaii); Kainoa Chu (Iolani School); Kekoa Taliaferro (Punahou Girl's Coach); Alan Lum (Former Punahou Boy's Coach); Greg Tacon (Moanalua Boy's Coach).

For many of these kids, this was their first chance to work with basketball legend Dennis Agena.  Attendees had an opportunity to work on many different skills ranging from passing, shot form, footwork, to dribbling.

Coach Taylor gave his feelings on the event. "This was such a great opportunity to work with different kids from all over the island who are passionate about trying to improve their fundamentals in basketball.  Their enthusiasm for learning was superb! We were able to accomplish a lot in only 3 hours.  It's too bad we only got to work with them for such a short while.  We wish we could have worked with them over a period of 3 days."

Current University of Hawaii football and basketball player Jeremiah Ostrowski recalls being in this exact situation years ago. "It feels good to be able to give back to the younger kids and help influence them to play basketball or any type of sport later in life.  I was once in their shoes attending basketball camps and getting influenced by older athletes at the time.

University of Hawaii Wahine Basketball player Shawna Kuehu said, "As an athlete, it is our responsibility to mentor and tutor the next generation of athletes.  Coach Agena has taught us hard-work, integrity, humility, and accountability.  These are some of the qualities we wish to pass on to the kids who were at the clinic."

This event marked Coach Dennis Agena's first clinic at Pearl City High School Gym. "We plan to continue to support Momilani Elementary school, their principal Doreen Higa, and the Hui's Mission to build positive relationships between the parents, teachers, and students.  The kids who attended the clinic worked real hard and it was my honor to come out to the Pearl City area to work with these kids."
