St. Francis runs by Chestermere in Lopes opener


St. Francis School routed Chestermere High School of Alberta, Canada, rn72-47, in the last of eight boys' games in the first day of the St. Francis-Merv Lopes Hoops Classic at Manoa Gym.

Keoni Tom-Millare led the way with 17 points and sophomore Matthew Nuumania added 16 more for the Saints, who will face St. Louis at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the championship bracket quarterfinals.

In other opening round games:

Defending Division I state champion Kamehameha was upset by Kalaheo, 48-45, with Josh Ko and Nainoa Frank combining for 39 points in the victory.

Science Hill (Tenn.) routed reigning D2 champ Farrington, who dropped their ninth game out of their last ten, 73-38. CJ Good had a game-high 20 points and connected on five shot from beyond the arc in the win.

Amador Valley (Calif.) got all they could handle from Leilehua, escaping with a 39-38 victory.

Kawe Johnson's 12 points led the way for Kahuku in a 65-34 blowout of Brentwood (BC, Can.). Red Raiders led 30-17 at halftime.

Kamehameha-Hawaii took out Mission Prep (Calif.) with a second-half rally, 49-48. Lanaki Apele poured in 20 points in the comeback win for the Warriors.

In all-ILH affair, Trent Parker scored 14 points and Brandon Akiona added 10 in Kamehameha II's 55-50 win over Damien.

Saint Louis jumped out to a 20-7 halftime lead and coasted to a 45-31 win over Kailua. Kamalei Correa had 11 points for the Crusaders.
