Kitamura tournament starts Wednesday


Seven-time defending state champion Punahou is one of 16 teams taking part in the Mid-Pacific Institute/Richard Kitamura Baseball Tournament this week at various sites.

The field includes five Interscholastic League of Honolulu teams, nine O'ahu Interscholastic Association teams and two from the Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation.

Here is the opening round schedule.

Wednesday
Wai'anae vs. Punahou at CORP, 6 p.m.
Kaiser vs. Kalani at Kahala Field, 4 p.m.
Mililani at Moanalua, 4 p.m.
Kamehameha vs. 'Aiea at Mid-Pacific, 4 p.m.

Pool A
Thursday
Kapa'a at Mid-Pacific, 4 p.m.
Leilehua vs. Roosevelt at Stevenson, 4 p.m.
Castle at 'Iolani, 4 p.m.
Waimea vs. Saint Louis at CORP, 6 p.m.

First-round winners advance to semifinals Friday, while losers move to consolation bracket. Pool play championship is Saturday. The overall title game between the two pool champions is 3 p.m. Sunday at MPI.
