The defending champs are moving on.

Kainoa Kaneshiro threw five innings of three-hit ball to lead No. 1 Kamehameha to a 4-0 win over Pearl City in the quarterfinals of the Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA Division I Baseball State Championships at Les Murakami Stadium Wednesday night.

The Warriors improved to 17-5 and will play No. 4 Baldwin in a 7 p.m. semifinal Friday.

The Chargers, who finished fifth in the Oahu Interscholastic Association tournament two weeks ago, saw their season at 9-9.

Kaneshiro, a 6-foot junior pitcher, recorded five strikeouts and three walks to get the win. Logan Sanchez threw two scoreless innings of relief to follow Kaneshiro.

The Warriors opening the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, when they plated a pair of runs. Matthew Zarriello scored on an RBI-sacrifice fly off the bat of Kiai Sylvester and one batter later, Kaleb Flores drove in Koen Mizukami with his two-out RBI double to right field.

In the Kamehameha half of the third inning, Jayden Montero led off the frame with a single. He moved into scoring position on a Nalu Grace sacrifice bunt. Montero eventually came around to score on an RBI-sacrifice fly by Jace Souza.

The Warriors added an insurance run when a Pearl City error allowed Grace to score in the bottom of the fifth.

Jase Lorenzo allowed four runs (one earned) on three hits in six innings pitched for the Chargers. He walked two and struck out two in the loss.
