No. 4 Campbell overcomes early deficit to stun second-ranked Punahou

It was a tale of two halves as fourth-ranked Campbell caught fire in the third quarter, then shut the door in the late stages of the fourth with a game-sealing pick-six in a 38-23 win over second-ranked Punahou.

After ending the first half with a key score on a 27 yard pass from Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele to Falaniko Scanlan with just 28 seconds left in the quarter to close the gap to 16-7, the Sabers exploded for four scores in a five minute span midway through the third.

Cristian Wyckstandt booted a 39 yard field goal at the 6:43 mark to start things off, then Sagapolutele connected for back-to-back passing scores, one to T'nias Tavale from three yards out with 5:39 in the third to take a 17-16 lead and the other to Rowen-Ray Bucao from 10 yards away with 3:49 in the quarter.

Xyler Jarra capped off a 24 point quarter with a four yard run to make it 31-16 Sabers.

Punahou made things interesting with an early fourth quarter scoring play from Ty McCutcheon to Zion White from 23 yards out that made it a one score game, but Tainoa Lave shut the door on a comeback bid with a 60 yard interception return for a score with 2:21 left.

The Buffablu built a 16-0 lead in the early on a rushing score from Alai Williams and a safety in the first, followed by a 34 yard touchdown reception by Noah Macapulay from McCutcheon.

Sagapolutele threw for 248 yards and three scores for the Sabers in the win, completing a pass to eight different receivers. His counterpart, McCutcheon, threw for 308 yards and two scores in the loss.

Neither team had much success running the ball, with both teams registering negative totals in the rushing department for the contest.

White had six receptions for 81 yards and a score to lead all pass catchers.

Defensively, the Sabers recorded eight sacks and nine tackles for loss, with three players recording a pair of sacks, Tito Ringor, T'nias Tavale and Nazaiah Caravallo-Lawelawe. Ringor also had six solo tackles. Punahou's Kekai Burnett had seven total tackles and three sacks, both game-highs.
