WAILUKU, Maui - Kaimana Burgo drove in three runs and Kailua beat No. 5 Iolani, 9-5, in the opening round of the Wally Yonamine Foundation Division I state baseball tournament Wednesday night at Iron Maehara Stadium.

Kailua will play OIA champion Mililani, the fourth-seeded team, at 11:15 a.m. in Thursday's quarterfinal.

Mikey Hanano (four innings) and Rayvin Pagan (three innings) combined to hold the Raiders to five runs and eight hits.

Shayde Kuhns and Nai Iwaki each had three hits for Kailua.

Bruin Agbayani and Jonah Velasco each had two hits for the Raiders. Agbayani scored three runs.

Iolani had won six in a row in the elimination bracket of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu's double-elimination tournament. But it lost Saint Louis for the overall title and entered the tournament with a 10-12 record, the worst by an ILH representative in the state tournament.

This is the sixth time the ILH has had three state berths. In the previous five, the ILH was 10-0 in first-round games. This is the first time the ILH got swept in the first round.

Iolani will play Kamehameha at 8:45 a.m. Thursday in a consolation semifinal.
